Empowering Stories
Women around the world have been oppressed against their own will but what matters is that those same women have persevered to become the successful individuals and role models they are today. Below, you will find powerful stories of inspiring women that have overcome adversities to become the beautiful and independent women they are now.
Rinku “Right from childhood I was never taught to be independent. It always seemed as though the goal was for me to get married. I got married at 17 and my life after marriage was terrible. I bore a lot of physical and mental violence at the hands of my husband and in-laws. They said they could not afford me and I surely had no skill to earn and support myself. I joined the CH training center and learnt to stitch. I now work at one of the CH cooperatives, I enjoy stitching and for the first time in my life I can financially support myself and my child. In fact I even help my parents financially."
“Since my childhood years, my father has exposed me to all the engineering and computer science areas, he taught me something that society wouldn’t expect to see... a girl in a STEM field. I became independent from this area, because as a girl, I couldn’t fit in, I had to do things on my own. This made me become stronger and inspire my family members and friends to try and achieve their goals as well. As a girl wanting to pursue computer science and engineering, it is hard for me to fit in and have ideas and opinions of my own. As a member of the high school robotics team and in an all girl team, I have seen so much partiality where it is always the guys team being recognized and them having the product. We are not recognized for our work. We are considered as just a “girls team” and nothing else. We as women should have many more opportunities and abilities and I think should be accounted in this society.”“Since my childhood years, my father has exposed me to all the engineering and computer science areas, he taught me something that society wouldn’t expect to see... a girl in a STEM field. J.K Rowling“The woman behind the popular Harry Potter series was a single mother living on welfare when she wrote the first book of the series. She was rejected by 12 different publishers before selling her book for a measly $4000. The work was an international hit and Rowling went on to write 6 more books for the series, which sold into the hundreds of millions of dollars, and was adapted into a huge blockbuster film franchise. Rowling is now the 13th wealthiest person in Britain, even wealthier than the Queen. Although she has said that she does not plan to write any more books to add to the Harry Potter series, she has written a few short stories and is working on a Harry Potter-related book.”
